15 Dating Mistakes You're Probably Making

The first few dates are always fun. Everything is new, you're both blinded by attraction, and there's no pressure to settle down or come to terms with the reality of a real relationship.
But the early days are more important than you think, according to psychologist and relationship expert Tracy Thomas, Ph.D. "What you do in the beginning of the relationship—and yes, you should see it as a relationship, not just a series of dates—sets the tone for the entire relationship," she says. In other words, there's not as much room for error as you expect—the moves you make now can mean the difference between moving from casual to serious or hook-up to break-up.
If you're having trouble keeping her interested after a month or so, you may be making one—or several—of these dating mistakes.
1. Hoping she'll make the first move
It's the 21st century—women are allowed to ask guys out, right? Right, but that's not a pass for you to sit back and expect her to come to you, says dating coach JT Tran. "Girls still want to be chased," Tran says. "Hoping for a woman to make the first move is fighting a losing battle. It might happen, but it probably won't."
2. Not paying for the first few dates
In today's enlightened society, the question of who pays seems complicated. But it's not, according to Thomas. "Some things are just too ingrained in gender roles," Thomas says. "In the first few dates, you want to set that masculine, care-taking tone." Picking up the tab for the first three dates doesn't mean going broke—if you can't afford three fancy dinners, take her on a picnic, to a museum, or check out your local public library.
3. Paying for everything
Once you've set that "masculine, care-taking tone," you can stop diving for your wallet. "On the fourth date, you should pause and give her a moment to jump in," Thomas says. "You want to show her that you can take care of her, but if you pay for everything the relationship takes on a parental quality." If she's not looking for a sugar daddy, she'll appreciate being able to pull her own weight.
4. Rattling off your résumé
Regaling her with tales of the amazing things you do or have done may seem like a surefire way to impress her—or not. "Guys are socialized to believe that their value lies in what they do," Thomas says. "But she wants to date you, not employ you." Women find it difficult to connect with men who are constantly selling themselves, Thomas says. Instead of talking about what you do, tell her how you feel about things, how you experience life, what makes you tick, and what inspires you.
5. Not having a plan
Women like decisive men, and the best way to show her you're capable of stepping up to the plate is by planning good dates. The key word being 'planning,' not just 'winging it.' "Good dates are planned, and all situations are thought of—nothing is left to chance," says Tran. "Try planning a date day, not just an event. This allows you to see her in multiple situations and both feed and entertain her, instead of just one." That said, it's better to think of your 'date day' as being on an Italian timetable: Flexibly romantic and never on time.
6. Having too many plans
Wait until you're exclusive to start hitting her up as your go-to plus-one, says relationship expert Anita Chlipala. "Asking her to attend your cousin's wedding four months down the road can scare her off," Chlipala says. "It puts too much pressure on both of you." Bottom line: Plan your time with her, but don't make plans for your future until you're both ready for that step.
7. Putting on an act
Think you can sweep a girl off her feet with well-executed lines and a fedora? Wrong, says Thomas. Even if you manage to pick her up initially, she won't stick around for long if you're putting on an act. "Pretending to be something you're not is fear operating," Thomas says. "It implies a defectiveness with who you are—it says you're afraid of who you are." Thomas points out that humans have an important, intuitive ability to sense fear (survival instinct, and all that), so you'll only be able to pull the wool over her eyes for a couple of dates, max.
8. Mistaking a good work relationship for attraction
Dating a co-worker is never a great idea, but hey—it happens. But before you take the plunge with a sexy colleague, you need to step back and recognize what's really fueling the attraction. "People in offices often bond out of survival," says Thomas. "Say you both have an awful boss, or your company is going through changes. Don't mistake that closeness for attraction." Your move: Ask her out, outside of the office.
9. Going all in, right away
Some women love over-the-top romantic gestures; some don't. If you've just started dating a girl, you probably don't know which category she's in. So hold off on those epic sweep-her-off-her-feet moves, Tran says. "If you invite her out on a fancy dinner date and show up with arms full of roses, chocolates, and teddy bears like you're celebrating the biggest Valentine's Day ever, you're putting a lot of pressure on her if you two aren't already an item," Tran explains. "You've taken care of her, so she's going to wonder what you expect her to do to take care of you." Upping the ante so quickly forces her to make an uncomfortable choice: Does she go along with your crazy charade, or does she bail?
10. Talking about yourself
Everyone loves to talk about themselves. That includes you. It also includes her. "Women in my office complain all the time that the men in their lives don't ask any questions, and aren't actually interested in the answers when they do," says Thomas. True story: If you ask her something about herself, be prepared to actually engage—if you don't, you look like a jerk who's only interested in himself and his own agenda. And if she's so boring that her answers can't hold your interest, maybe it's time to reevaluate the budding relationship.
11. Not being present
Your 348 Twitter followers can wait: If you're on a date, you have no business tweeting, texting, checking in, or Instagramming. "Shut down whatever else you're doing—that includes electronic devices, but also just the noise in your head—and show up," says Thomas. "There isn't anything more important than the connection you have with your date, and that comes from being truly present."
12. Overanalyzing
"Women get a bad rap for overanalyzing, but men do it too," says Chlipala. "Reading too much into her words and actions can do a lot of harm." You'll end up assigning negative meanings to the things she says or does. Chlipala suggests making an effort to take her actions at face value (her waiting three hours to respond to your text means nothing more than that she waited three hours to respond to your text) and play devil's advocate with your negative thoughts.
13. Giving up too soon
You asked her out, she said no, you cut your losses and move on—right? Not exactly, says sales expert Grant Cardone, author of If You're Not First, You're Last. "It's like trying to land a multi-million dollar account," Cardone says. "You have to be creative, confident, and positive." Pursuing a girl like you'd pursue a client might seem desperate, but Cardone disagrees. "You only come across as desperate if you try the same thing more than once," he explains. "Don't call her twenty times and ask her to dinner. Nobody wants the life sucked out of them."

14. Not speaking up
Here's how to avoid the dreaded friend zone: Speak up. "Guys get stuck in the friend zone because they don't make their feelings clear," Thomas says. "They don't want to mess up the relationship by putting it all out on the table, but it's their unwillingness to stand up and claim their truth that turns women off." She may not jump into your arms the second you speak up, but she'll definitely respect you for owning it.
15. Holding out for the perfect woman
She doesn't exist. "Every woman comes with faults and problems," says Chlipala. "Don't dismiss her too quickly. Date from the perspective of what she offers and what her good traits are—unless you want to stay single forever."

The first part stopped at "Getting the numbers." Here are the other four tips you'll need to transform yourself into a ladies' man.

5- Asking them out
Just because you've gotten a woman's number, doesn't mean she'll agree to go out with you (although if you've positioned yourself properly, you won't have to worry about this). Women's minds are notoriously mercurial and can change in several radical directions during the course of even one day.

For example, in between the time you've met her and the time you call, she could have experienced a nasty run-in with her ex-boyfriend and decided that all men are bad. Sometimes women give out fake numbers just to brush guys off, or will write down a phone number or e-mail (or take yours) with absolutely no intention of making a date.

Assuming she's receptive, it's always best to wait a couple of days before calling, even if your testosterone level is in the red zone. Men who are successful with women make sure they're not readily available -- they make themselves a challenge (and women love challenges).

In the initial stages of courtship, your attitude should be that she's on trial, interviewing for the position of your romantic partner. So keep your first phone call short and simple. After a brief, friendly conversation, ask her out, get her response, and get off the line. That way, you appear busy (not so available) and not desperate.

Her response will be critical to your future as a dating couple. If she says "yes" -- great, you're in. If she says "no" or "I have a boyfriend" (female-speak for "no," whether she has one or not), then c'est la vie . Sure, it hurts, but at least you know where you stand. Anything else is unacceptable.

Responses like "I'm really busy right now" or "Let me check my schedule and get back to you," mean "I'd like to say 'no,' but I don't want to feel guilty." Remember the cardinal rule: if a woman is interested in a man, she will go out of her way to make herself available to him.

So if you're "too busied," don't beg or keep trying -- just exit gracefully. If a woman is really interested in going out with you and really is too busy, she'll let you know. She'll say something like, "I can't this weekend, but how about the following one?"

6- Going on first dates
First dates can be nerve-wracking experiences. Male egos are on the line. Typically, a guy's entire focus is on getting laid, on proving himself "worthy" of access to his date's sexual "favors." Because he's so fearful of the ego-shred of sexual rejection, his attitude is, "She has what I want and I'm going to have to cater to her to get it."

So he wussies out, kisses up, agrees with everything she says, submerges his true personality, and generally surrenders all his masculine power.

The more you care about the outcome, the more you're going to lose. So to win at the dating game, you have to fine-tune your attitude before you go on the first date. Get it into your head that you're the catch, and that she's going to have to prove herself to you; you have what she wants.

This is not arrogance -- it's what sexual confidence is all about.

Many guys think they have to spring for fancy dinners or entertainment to impress a woman, but it's always best to keep the first date short, casual and low-key. You want to get to know her, not pay for her attention.

A good plan is to meet at a coffee shop, lunch place, or quiet bar, where the two of you can have a conversation to see if any sparks fly. This is the perfect opportunity to make use of your dating skills -- so shut up and listen, keep the focus on her, and use sexually-interested body language.

It's important to keep the first date short. Remember; you're busy, not desperate. So end the date early, even if it's going well.

7- Going on second dates
Okay, the first date was a success. Now what?

This is where a lot of guys make a huge mistake. They send flowers; they start firing off cute "I'm thinking of you" e-mail; they tell the woman how much they like her.

Women think in terms of relationships, not sex. Women know that men are after their bodies, and they also know that the flowers and the attention are there to obligate them for sex. If you put pressure on a woman, she'll see you as desperate or a stalker, and she'll panic and run.

So after the first date, it's time to back off (remember; you're the catch). Now is the time to be a bit "mysterious." Wait another few days before calling her again. Or call her and tell her that you had a great time, then ask her out for a date two or three weeks in the future.

The rule is: in the initial stages of courtship, take one step forward, two steps back . By doing this, you don't come off as a typical, horn-dog guy -- you're different , not panting at her doorstep.

When you get a second date, do something fun and different -- go on a roller coaster ride, paddle canoes, attend a wine tasting event. Be creative. Just keep it light and easy. Stay away from bars and parties where there's competition from other hungry men.

8- Getting physical
Now is the time to rev up your sexual body language. Touch her, take her hand -- see how she responds. Kiss her. Then back off. Your goal is to pave the way for the physical part of the relationship. Unfortunately, since she's the "pok ee " and you're the "pok er ," she's going to control the pace, but this doesn't mean that you can't spin it in your favor.

Testosterone courses through men's veins like liquid fire. Men are consumed by sex. But because they're at the mercy of their sex drives, men often blow their chances by coming on too strong, too soon.

So when it's time to get physical, it's also time to change your dating skills. The "one step forward, two steps back" rule is vital at this point, if you want to retain any kind of control of the relationship.

Instead of "putting the moves on her," do just the opposite. Kiss her, then back away -- pretend you're not really interested. Go back to her place, then tell her you're tired and it's time for you to go home now. Turn the sexual tables on her.

The idea is to create anticipation and rev up the sexual tension. Women are so used to controlling men with sex that this will drive her crazy and make her salivate for you.

And when you do get physical, you'd better make sure that you know your way around the landscape. Pleasuring a woman is one of the greatest experiences in the world, and there's just no excuse for being a lousy lover.

Wife Catches Husband's Girlfriend, Beats and Strips Her

One-man/one-wife wahala! Men of the Nigeria Police Force in Bayelsa State have arrested a house-wife and six others for assaulting and stripping a beautiful 23-year-old woman, in the Okaka area of the state capital, Yenagoa, for allegedly having an illicit affair with the woman's husband.

The husband, a driver attached to the Bayelsa State government house and a native of Akwa Ibom State, was said to have fled the scene of the incident after his wife and her friends caught him and his lover in the act. The wife was left with no choice than to beat the fine girl and strip her...

According to Leadership, the incident which occurred on Thursday night at a bar along the Okaka Road, attracted a huge crowd, as the aggrieved housewife and her friends descended heavily on the husband’s lover and teach her some very bitter lessons.

An eye-witness told Ladership that the owner of the bar, who has been contracted by the housewife to spy on the duo alerted her and her friends at about 7.30pm, to the presence of her husband and his lover at the bar. The wife’s friends joined her to humiliate the lady who they termed a “husband-snatcher”.

“They were shameless; they could see that she was having her monthly flow, yet they took out their phones and began videoing her... while forcing her to dance,” the source added.

The crowd at the scene enjoyed the whole drama, until the arrival of men of the police patrol team from the Ekeki Division, who took the wife and friends to the station for necessary action.

Details of Gov Amaechi's Broadcast on Ebola in Rivers State

My dear people of Rivers State, we woke up this morning to the sad confirmation that the dreaded Ebola virus disease has claimed its first victim in Rivers State.

Dr. Iyke Sam Enemuo died last Friday, August 22, 2014 as a result of what was suspected to be ebola virus disease. The State Ministry of Health on becoming aware of the conditions of his death, immediately commenced investigations and contact tracing. As at today, about one hundred contacts from a hotel, patients of Dr. Enemuo and patients of the hospital where the late Enemuo was treated until his demise have been identified and restricted. The different locations are being decontaminated.

Our investigations reveal that:
1. A staff of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on the team that received late Dr. Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian American diplomat who died of ebola haemorrhagic disease in Lagos, Nigeria made a trip to Port Harcourt where he checked into a hotel and met with Dr. Iyke Sam Enemuo.

2. About a week after his departure, Dr. Iyke Enemuo took ill and was rushed to a hospital with symptoms of fever, diarrhea and vomiting. In the course of treatment, the managing physician became suspicious and took blood samples for investigation.

3. A few days later, Dr. Iyke Enemuo died, precisely on August 22, 2014. Dr. Iyke Enemuo’s widow, who is also a medical doctor and who cared for him during his illness has taken ill. She is being quarantined.

4. The diplomat who was seen by late Dr. Iyke Enemuo is alive and well.

There’s no need to panic. Everyone should remain calm and go about their normal businesses. The Government of Rivers State is doing everything possible to contain the effects and spread of the ebola virus.

We have the material and human resources we need to fight and defeat the deadly virus. Officials from the Federal Ministry of Health and other international agencies are already here working with the state ministry of health to contain and combat the virus.

Now, we must all endeavour to adhere to basic hygiene rules. Wash your hands regularly with soap and water and avoid unnecessary body contacts like shaking of hands.

Husband Catches Wife in the same Hotel he Took his Girlfriend To In Lagos

There was serious drama in the Olodi Apapa area of Lagos on Thursday night as a man who took another lady to a hotel to enjoy himself, came out from the hotel room only to see his own wife coming out from another room in the same hotel with his best friend.

When he spotted them, the visibly angry husband, identified as Kayode, was said to have shouted:
“My own wife in a hotel with another man!”

At the first instance when Kayode saw his wife, Mrs. Funmilayo, he never envisaged that the man with her was his best friend, Mr Mufutau, but after a closer look, he noticed that the man was Mufutau and he slapped him twice before Mufutau retaliated. And serious fight broke out.

Funny enough, as both men were fighting themselves in public, Kayode's wife, Funmilayo, pounced on her husband's girlfriend and tore the lady's clothes for having the effrontry to date her husband...

The crazy fight came to an end when the Bar Man, Receptionist, and others customers intervened and they blamed both the married man and his wife for not being sincere and trustworthy to themselves.

According to Leadership, the Bar Man told Kayode that he was guilty of the same offence for bringing a lady, which they later discovered was also a married woman, to the hotel. The barman said that what occurred was a nemesis or law of distributional justice.

But before the fight ended, the women were said to have torn their clothes to shreds and left in shame

BIG SHAME: Confusion Over Capture of 480 Nigerian Soldiers

*Boko Haram seizes another town, Madagali
Did 480 Nigerian soldiers escape to Cameroon to avoid fighting Boko Haram? A Cameroonian official said they did. But Nigerian military is denying it, saying the soldiers were involved in a “tactical manoeuvre”.

The matter remained unclear yet as the Defence Headquarters insisted that there was no defection. The BBC had reported that 480 Nigerian soldiers were in Cameroon, following their refusal to fight the insurgents.

But there were indications last night that the DHQ had ordered a probe into the “presence” of the 480 soldiers in Cameroon.

The Cameroon Army, in a report on the BBC, claimed that the soldiers defected. Their Army spokesman Lt. Col. Didier Badjek said the soldiers had been disarmed and were being accommodated in schools.

The Director of Defence Information, Major-Gen. Chris Olukolade, in a statement on the alleged disarming of the 480 soldiers in Cameroon, said: “The Nigerian troops that were found in Cameroon was as a result of a sustained battle between the troops and the terrorists around the borders with Cameroon, which saw the Nigerian troops charging through the borders in a tactical manoeuver.

“Eventually, they found themselves on Cameroonian soil. Being allies, the normal protocol of managing such incident demanded that the troops submit their weapons in order to assure the friendly country that they were not on a hostile mission.

“Following necessary discussions between Nigerian and Cameroonian military authorities, the issues have been sorted out. Subsequently, the troops are on their way back to join their unit in Nigeria.

“The reference to the incident as a defection is, therefore, not appropriate, considering the discussion between the two countries’ military leadership and the series of contacts with the soldiers who have confirmed that they are safe.

“Meanwhile, troops are repelling a group of terrorists who are trying to enter the country through Gamboru-Ngala. A group of them who fizzled into the town are being pursued.”

“We have sorted out things with the Cameroonian authorities.”

But sources say the Nigerian government is trying hard to hide the truth. In fact, clashes were continuing in the border town of Gamboru-Ngala.

Boko Haram on Sunday released a video in which it said it had established an Islamic state in the towns and villages it controls in the northeast especially Gwoza.

The Nigerian soldiers are in the Cameroonian town of Maroua, about 80km from the Nigerian border, Lt. Col. Badjek told the BBC.

Ribadu Opens Up: Why I Dropped My Presidential Ambition

Former presidential candidate of defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has explained why he abandoned his presidential ambition to contest the governorship primary of Peoples Democratic Party for the Adamawa State governorship poll.

Ribadu, who spoke with journalists after he submitted his nomination form at the national headquarters of the PDP in Abuja on Monday, said that his desire to serve at any level propelled him to drop his initial ambition.

Ribadu, who was a former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, said, “Everything in my life has been about public service. I’m prepared to serve in any capacity.

“If you ask me to come and be a sweeper of any street in any part of the country, I’m ready to do that. I don’t even have power of my own in any part.”

Asked whether he was worried that PDP was yet to grant him and other defected aspirants waivers needed to contest the primary, he said no.

"I am not worried about the waiver. I have followed the rules. I am a law and order person. I have done my own bit and I will wait for the party to do their own. That part is not my responsibility,” he said.

Under the constitution of the party, new members and returnees are not qualified to seek elective positions until after two years, except they get a waiver.

Section 50 (9) of the PDP constitution says, “There shall be a minimum of two year membership span for a member to be eligible to stand for election into any public office, unless the appropriate executive committee gives a waiver or rules to the contrary.”

Meanwhile, other aspirants have insisted that the party must conduct proper primary to choose the candidate of the party for the October 11 election.

The aspirants spoke when they came to also submit their nomination forms to the party’s national leadership, which was received by the National Organisation Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha.

The aspirants included the former Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Alhaji Mohammed Modibbo; Acting Governor of the state, Ahmed Fintiri; former Presidential Adviser, Ahmed Gulak; and the former ACN governorship candidate in the state, Mr. Marcus Gundiri.

Others are former Lagos State Military Administrator, Buba Marwa; Dr. Umar Ardo, Senator Ahmed Girei, Gen. A. A. Kana (retd.), Awwal Tukur and Aliyu Idi-Hong.

Modibbo said, “People should be allowed to contest. We should not pay too much attention to consensus. Our tragedy in the state was that we did not do the proper thing when we chose the past leader.”

Awww! Mercy Johnson is so unique in her own way. She is crazy about Genevieve Nnaji and here's what she said transpired between them when their paths crossed for the first time:

The first time I met her, my friend took me there. When we got to where she was, I became nervous. I told my friend 'No, let me hide in your boot'. And I did. I got into her boot (laughs). Can you imagine, I came to see her and when I got there I wanted to run back.

I jumped into my friends boot. So, when she came out of the hotel, I could not see her, I could only hear her voice...

The 2nd time I saw her was on set. When she came down and I met her she said ahh! Mercy I like your movies and I started crying. I was in tears of joy. I said Aunty Genevieve, so you watch my movies. She was sort of embarrassed. Before I met her, she had already known that there was somebody who was crazily insane about her. She was really nice to me, receptive. And even whenever we work together she will correct me and say that thing you did, you could have done it this way.

Usually, in life, you will know somebody, who is more than you. Give him or her that respect. You can’t fight a battle you can’t win. It does not make any sense. If somebody is much more than you, there is nothing as big as you admitting it, and hearing from that person. I didn’t come into the picture to compete with anybody. I didn’t come into the picture to rub shoulders or outshine anybody. I came to learn, do it well, make it and be there.
